Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Colorado Gold Conference

Have you registered yet?

The 30th anniversary conference is scheduled for September 7-9 in Denver. You can find all of the information on the RMFW website including the list of instructors and agents/editors attending, a full schedule of workshops, and the registration form for the conference, master classes, agent pitch sessions, etc.




Personal Essay and Poetry Contests

The Northern Colorado Writers contest for personal essay/creative nonfiction is wrapping up. The deadline for submissions is Friday, June 15th.

Next up is the poetry contest which runs from July 1st to October 15th.

These contests have a low entry fee, distinguished judges, and award cash prizes. Winners and Honorable Mentions will be published in the annual winners' anthology, Pooled Ink: Celebrating the 2012 NCW Contest Winners (due out December 1, 2012) and receive 1 free copy.

Children’s Book Illustrator Presentation at Loveland Library

Dawn Middleton at the Loveland Library tells us Scott Nash will be at the Library June 28th at 2 p.m. to give a presentation.

An accomplished illustrator with a distinctive vibrant style, Scott has illustrated more than 30 children's books. Visiting all the way from Maine, Scott will read from his books, tell stories, demonstrate animations and talk about where ideas hide out. He'll reveal drawing tricks and engage the audience in conversation about where characters come from.



Mystery Writers of America University Comes to Denver

This low-cost day of classes is scheduled for Saturday, August 11, 2012, at The Westin Denver – Downtown.

Instructors include Jess Lourey (After the Idea), Stan Trollip (Dramatic Structure and Plot), Rex Burns (Setting and Description), Laura DiSilverio (Character), Reed Farrel Coleman (Writing as Re-Writing), and Hank Phillippi Ryan (The Writing Life).

Here's another one I missed. Wyoming mystery author C.J. Box will be speaking and signing books at an event in New Castle, CO. He will speak about "Life and Writing in the Mountain Time Zone."
