Purple Prose Slam: You Can Win a Free Editor or Agent Workshop!

As writers, we’re not supposed to smear purple prose in our manuscript. A new aspiring writer may even spend hours scrubbing their copy clean of the magenta. I know I did.

However, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Shouldn’t we have a place to let out all of our cheesy expression? After all, art should not be bound.

Here’s your chance. And you could win a free workshop with one of the industry reps listed below. Just gives us your smelliest, shabbiest, silliest metaphors, similes, and literary devices gone wrong. Hang it up in the comments section of this posting for the entire world to see. Please keep it 40 words or under and PG rated. We also ask that you be a follower of the Rock through Google or Networked blogs. Our staff will choose the entry that squirts the most interesting shade of purple on us. The winner will be announced on Chiseled in Rock March 3rd 2011. We will take entries up until March 2nd. Please enter only once.

The workshop, a precursor to the September RMFW Gold Conference in Denver, is two hours long and accommodates approximately 10 people per each facilitating industry representative. You bring a manuscript and the agent or editor gives you tips. Julie Kazimer landed a book deal with Kensington directly from one of these workshops last year. They are a great opportunity to network with a professional who knows the ins and outs of the publishing industry.
