Why the Gold Conference is the Best Bet For You

If you’re going to take this slippery slope to try and get your manuscript published, and you’ve realized that attending a conference increases your chances of success, then you’ll want to find one that offers the most for your money. And while you’re at it, why not go to one that’s a kick in the pants? I give you the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Gold Conference. www.rmfw.org

Authors get book deals and representation at the Gold. Just last year, J.A. Kazimer met an editor with Kensington. Two months later she was offered a contract from that very meeting.

We have the most accessibility to editors and agents. With your registration cost, you get a pitch appointment with one editor or agent. But the opportunities don’t stop there. At each banquet, the tables are flagged with the industry rep who will be dining in that spot. Don’t be surprised if the agent/editor at your table asks about your manuscript. There are so many Q and A panels with industry professionals that like a kid in candy store, one may have trouble choosing.

It’s economical at less than $350. By far, it’s the best bargain in the landscape of writer’s conferences for what you get. At larger conferences, it can be next to impossible to rub elbows with big-name authors and publishers. Our more intimate milieu is most conducive to making the connections you’ll need to get your book out there.

We also specialize in featuring keynote speakers who mean business. New York Times Bestselling author Allison Brennan and critically acclaimed historical fiction writer Bernard Cornwell take the stage this year. Allison is a member of several organizations, including International Thriller Writers and Romance Writers of America. Book three in the Lucy Kincaid series, IF I SHOULD DIE, will be available on November 22nd. Bernard is chiefly known for the Sharpe books, a series of (so far) 21 novels that tell the story of a British rifleman fighting Napoleon’s forces in Portugal, Spain and France. The books were made into a TV series starring Sean Bean.

Now for the fun.

If you haven’t been able to tell by the Chiseled in Rock blog, we have a blast. Let’s start by boasting attractions outside of the conference. Come in early and see Denver. Garden of the Gods (free), the mountains (free), Big Blue Bear (free), Red Rocks (free), the DIA Giant Blue Bronco (free), historic mountain towns (cheap), a wonderful downtown arts district (cheap), all the major sports, and a Mile High metro vibe. One of our board members may just pile in the car with you to act as tour guide.

The Novel Idea Follies, presented the first night as the opening program for the weekend ceremonies, is a collection of short comedy skits and music that pokes fun at the writing business. You could chalk it up to a cross between a sing-along bar and Prairie Home Companion. This year, they’ll be teasing one of our long-time RMFW members who just so happens to also be a national bestselling author!

Enjoy FREE cocktails and a kicked back atmosphere in our Hospitality Suite where you have YET ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY to chat with authors, agents, and editors. Don’t be surprised if you see a well known writer bartending for the crowd. That’s just how relaxed it is.

Come up with the most bizarre simile you can stand to imagine and submit it for the Rick Hanson Memorial Simile Contest. Rick was a “colorful” fellow and we honor him with his candid style of silliness.

I'd be there if it wasn't the same weekend as the Denver anime convention, to which I promised I'd take my grandkids. Next year, please make it the weekend before or after, and I can do both. : - )

I love Colorado Gold! DEFINITELY make sure to catch the hospitality suite. I was a newb last year and almost didn't go, but at the last minute it sounded like so much fun (my hotel room was two floors directly above it...and yeah, I could hear the fun from there) that I decided to give it a shot. Everyone treated me like I was one of the gang - made me a believer, for sure!

I'm presenting this year as well as attending, and I've literally been looking forward to this since I stepped on the plane to go home from last year's conference. I've been to a few different writers' conferences, and Colorado Gold is definitely my favorite!

I've rarely seen such a great line up of presenters as what I saw listed for this conference. I am excited for everyone who will be able to attend this year.

BTW, Marlena Cassidy referred me to your blog, which I am very glad to be following.
